(BEDFORD) - Hoosier Upland under contract by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority will open the waiting list for Section 8 Housing Voucher (VCH) Program in Lawrence County to the first 200 applicants to apply.
Applications will be taken beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday in the Mitchell Hoosier Upland Office at 500 West Main Street in Mitchell.
The application process will continue during normal business hours. Normal business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Applications need to be completed in person. Persons needing a reasonable accommodation for a disability should call Hoosier Uplands office at (812) 827-2219 during business hours.
Applicants will be put on a waiting list based on performance claimed, then by date and time of application. As voucher assistance becomes available, applicants are selected from the waiting list.
Applicants must provide a valid identification and be 18 years old or older, birth certificate, social security card (for all members). Preference is given to applications who at the time of the application provide proof of Indiana residency, are currently homeless, are working or enrolled in an education or training program, are age 62 or older, are disabled or have a disabled family member, are institutionalized or at risk of being institutionalized.
Based on their income, program participants may pay a portion of their monthly housing costs and a housing assistance payment is issued to the landlord for the remainder of the eligible cost.
Placement on the waiting list does not guarantee that applicants will qualify for assistance.
