(BROWNSTOWN) - A 21-year-old Jackson County man has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing the death of a 3-year-old Crothersville girl.
Police arrested Brent Allen Sawyer of Crothersville on a Level 5 felony Saturday morning. If found guilty he could face up to six years in prison.
According to an Indiana State Police report, on the morning of May 13 that Sawyer had been involved in a wreck on U.S. 31 in the Crothersville area, and that caused the death of Tavaya Bevers. Bevers was a passenger in a 2003 Ford Windstar van driven by her father, 30-year-old Devin Bevers of Crothersville.
Devin Bevers was driving north on U.S. 31 near County Road 500 South when he was involved in a near head-on collision with a 2006 Jeep Liberty driven by Sawyer.
