(BLOOMINGTON) - Margie Smith-Simmons will replace Mark Land as the official spokesperson for Indiana University.
Smith-Simmons, formerly director of strategic communications at IU-Purdue University Indianapolis, has been named interim IU assistant vice president for strategic communications and university spokesperson. She will oversee IU's strategic communications program, which includes news and media relations, campus communications and social media, in addition to her duties as spokeswoman.
Land left IU to lead communications at Clemson University.
Ryan Piurek, who previously served as director of strategic communications at IU-Bloomington, has been appointed interim IU assistant vice president for public affairs and presidential communications. Piurek will lead public affairs initiatives in support of academic programs, university initiatives and institutional priorities, serving as a liaison with constituents both within and outside of IU's academic community.
Additionally, he will manage a broad range of communications activity in support of the strategic priorities and key initiatives of the IU Office of the President. Piurek and Smith-Simmons will report to IU Vice President for Engagement Bill Stephan.
