(BEDFORD) - Please don’t smoke in Bedford city parks - that is what the Bedford Park Board is asking residents.
The park Board established a policy this week declaring certain areas of the parks as no-smoking zones.
Bedford Parks Director Barry Jeskewich says the action was taken after numerous requests from concerned citizens in a "good-faith effort" to enhance the parks for everyone.
Officials are discouraging smoking on playgrounds and in bleachers where they impact children and people who don't smoke or want to be around second-hand smoke.
Officials will not be taking a heavy-handed approach in enforcing the new policy. Jeskewich says that offenders will just be asked to smoke elsewhere. However, repeated violations could lead to a no-trespass order being filed preventing them to be in the city parks.
