(AVOCA) - A Sellersburg man suffered serious injuries after his semi tractor-trailer flipped Wednesday afternoon at Ind. 54 and Ind. 37.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 29-year-old Andrew Smith was traveling east on Ind. 54 and when his trailer went off the roadway and struck a guardrail and rolled on its side, which caused the 1994 Mack semi to also flip over onto the guardrail.
The semi and trailer, owned by Woodridge Homes Inc. was hauling scrap metal.
Smith was trapped in the cab of the vehicle and was freed by Bedford Fire Department extrication unit.
Smith suffered facial injuries, fractured jaw and had missing and broken teeth. He was transported by Air Evac helicopter to a Louisville Hospital.
The highway was closed for several hours while crews worked the scene.
Assisting at the scene were an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew, Marshall, Perry and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Departments and TOPES.
