(BLOOMINGTON) - Police in several county assisted in tracking down a Solsberry man accused of robbing the Low Bob’s Discount Tobacco store in Bloomington.
They were finally able to arrest him after stopping his vehicle on I-69 near Evansville.
Officers arrested 36-year-old Nathan Callahan at 9 p.m. Monday on a charge of armed robbery.
According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, Callahan is accused of robbing Low Bob's Discount Tobacco store, located in a strip mall off West Third Street in Bloomington.
Police say Callahan entered the tobacco store wearing a camouflage hat and sunglasses armed with a gun, demanded money and then fled in a white 2000 Jeep Cherokee.
Police began tracking Callahan's cellphone after he called his brother saying goodbye and that he was "going to see the West one more time." The brother told police he feared his brother was suicidal.
Police then began tracking Callahan's cellphone. He was arrested after the cellphone pinged off a tower in Petersburg. He was pulled over at the 16 mile marker, north of Evansville.
Callahan told police he robbed the store because he needed money to fuel his addiction for OxyContin.
During a search of Callahan's home police found the BB gun they believed he used in the robbery and $109.
