Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff's Department were alerted to the crash at 9:52 a.m.
Sergeant Keith Keller was the first to arrive on scene and determined at least seven people were injured or complaining of pain. Deputy Danny Salmon arrived a short time later.
According to police, 39-year-old Mary Ann Schickel of Lanesville, Indiana and four passengers in her vehicle were westbound on U.S. 150 entering a curve west of Morgan Curve Road.

As Schickel's Ford went left of center, it struck Rogers' Buick Terraza head-on. Rogers told police she did attempt to swerve to avoid the crash.
One passenger was trapped in Rogers' Buick and had to be freed from the wreckage.
On Sunday, 75-year-old Ray F. Schickel of Lanesville, who was a passenger in Schickel's Ford, passed away at University of Louisville Hospital due to injuries sustained in the accident.
Units from the Shoals Volunteer Fire Department and Martin County Civil Defense assisted with treating patients and freed the passenger in Rogers' car.
Two Martin County EMS units, two Dubois County EMS units, and a Seals ambulance from Lawrence County transported a total of 11 people to area hospitals.
The investigating officer is Sergeant Keith Keller with the Martin County Sheriff's Office. He was assisted by Deputy Danny Salmon, the Shoals Volunteer Fire Department, the Martin County Civil Defense, Martin and Dubois County EMS, Seals EMS, and G&M Wrecker Service.
