(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Saturday night after Lawrence County Police received a 911 call reporting a domestic fight.
Officers arrived at the home in the 600 block of Bennett Road at 8:49 p.m.
There they spoke with a 35-year-old woman, her mother and 37-year-old Marc Burton, who police say seemed to be intoxicated.
"The woman told police the argument started when she laughed at her husband over a comment he made while watching something on television," Sheriff Mike Branham says.
That is when Burton became verbally abusive toward the woman and when she tried to defend herself, he hit her several times in the back of the head.
The woman then attempted to leave the home with their 2-year-old daughter and that is when Burton allegedly shoved her and wouldn't let her leave.
The woman then called police and that is when Burton allegedly hit her in the side of the face with a closed fist and threatened her.
"Investigating officers noticed redness on the side of the victim's face," Branham added.
Marc Burton was arrested on a charge of domestic battery in the presence of a minor, criminal confinement and intimidation.
A domestic violence lethality assessment screening form was completed for the victim and Department of Child Services was contacted.
