(BEDFORD) - The Bedford North Lawrence School Board voted voted 6-0 on Thursday to adopt the 2017 budget.
The Times-Mail reports that a public hearing on the proposed budget was conducted on Sept. 8 but no members of the public attended to learn more or ask questions.
North Lawrence plans to spend $49,954,146 in 2017.
Of that figure, the maximum amount to be raised through local property taxes is estimated at $14,591,124. The current tax levy is $10,646,252.
The budget is an appropriation request. Appropriations are simply permission to spend funds. Appropriations do not reflect the actual amount that NLCS receives.
For most of the funds, NLCS advertises high, expecting to receive less. The advertised tax rate for 2017 is $1.6675. The advertised rate for 2016 was $1.6656, with the Department of Local Government Finance later approving an actual rate of $1.0174.
