(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police dog Ike found and apprehended a felon hiding under a mattress and behind bedroom furniture Tuesday night.
The 50-year-old man suffered a dog bite to his left ear. He was first taken to IU Heath Bloomington Hospital and later transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to be treated by a plastic surgeon, according to Bloomington police Sgt. Joe Crider.
A 37-year-old woman called police about 11 p.m. Tuesday to report harassment at a residence in the 900 block of West Eighth Street. She said the man, who was wanted on a warrant, was being threatening and aggressive toward her.
Officers confirmed the man was wanted on a felony warrant over a probation violation after he pleaded guilty to strangulation and battery in July.
When police arrived they saw the man inside run from the living room and up the stairs, while the woman who answered the door told police he wasn't home. The man did not comply with the officers' commands to stop and talk to them.
Officers sent in Ike, who found the man hiding under a mattress, wedged behind a headboard and two night stands.
He then surrendered and was arrested. He now faces an additional charge of resisting law enforcement.
