(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police have arrested a man in connection to a Labor Day burglary and rape case.
On September 5th at approximately 4 a.m., a woman living in an apartment at 2036 North Walnut Street reported waking up to a man in her room.
According to Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams, the man threatened to kill her then raped her. He then left with her cell phone.
Detectives began investigating the case and based on physical evidence located during the investigation a DNA sample was sent to the Indiana State Police lab and a suspect was developed.
In the early morning hours of September 15th detectives located 27-year-old Devon Grounds at an apartment on South Henderson Street. He was arrested without incident and interviewed by detectives. Grounds admitted to being in the area of the attack but said that due to alcohol and drug use he could not remember what happened.
Devon Grounds was transported to the Monroe County Jail and booked on the charge of rape, burglary, and theft. He also arrested on an unrelated warrant for leaving the scene of an accident.
Detectives are still investigating the incidents that occurred on September 5th and September 8th where an unknown male entered unlocked residences on the south side of Bloomington.
