(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police are investigating the rape of a woman at Knights Landing apartments in the 2000 block of North Walnut Street and the attack of another woman.
Both incidents happened Monday morning.
According to police a 24-year-old woman was asleep in bed, heard noises and awoke to find a strange masked man standing over her bed. The woman told police the man had a Southern accent.
According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, the man threatened to kill her if she didn't roll over, then he tied her hands behind her back and raped her.
The man stole her cellphone.
After the assault the woman emailed her father for help and asked him to call police.
The woman was taken to Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital for a sexual assault examination.
The woman told police her door had been locked for the night. Investigators found no signs of forced entry at the apartment.
Around 4:30 a.m. police were called to the Regency Court apartments in the 1600 block of South Henderson Street - three miles south of the second attack.
A woman reported she awoke on a friend's couch to a strange masked man touching her leg.
A 20-year-old woman told police that the man told her to take off her clothes and instead she pulled off his mask. The man then grabbed the mask, pulled the woman's hair and ran out the back door.
The suspect was described as being a college-aged white man wearing a sweatshirt. The mask was made out of a black stretchable fabric with a white skull face on it. The woman says the man did not have an accent.
Anyone with information on either attack is asked to call the Bloomington Police Department at (812) 339-4477.
