(LYONS) -The Lyons Town Council approved a request from Lyons Town Marshal Ronald Sparks to convert his position as Town Marshal from a full-time position, into a part-time position.
Presented and discussed at an executive session on Sunday night, Sparks made the request due to not having the time to devote to the position, as he recently took another job at White River Valley High school.
The Greene County Daily World reports a resident in attendance at the public meeting asked if another part-time officer would now be needed, or if a reserve would even be an option.
Vice President Kimberly Nickless answered on behalf of the board, saying they would see how the change affects things until the end of the year, and then do something different if need be. Ultimately, it will depend on how the Lyons Police Department handles the coverage to decide what will happen next.
The money saved with the new change to the Town Marshal position will allow more to be put into other town improvements, such as the roads which are also currently being re-paved and patched, according to Nickless.
