(BEDFORD) - A Norman woman was arrested Wednesday after kicking a police officer and causing a disturbance at the Rosemount Motel.
Bedford Police arrested 32-year-old Jessica Carter who was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to an officer, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana, resisting law enforcement, neglect of a dependent and public intoxication.
Police also arrested 31-year-old Anthony M. Burns for neglect of a dependent and possession of marijuana.
At 11:51 p.m., police received a call about an argument at the Rosemount Motel.
According to Chief Dennis Parsley, when officers arrived they were met by Carter and Burns outside of the motel.
Police detected an odor of alcohol coming from Carter. They also noticed a child was sitting in a vehicle they were standing beside. Carter told officers Burns locked her child in the truck and wouldn't let Carter have her.
Chief Parsley says as police were talking to Carter, she became upset and verbally abusive toward them and others at the motel. She was told stop, but she refused. After continuing to cause a disturbance, police attempted to place her under arrest for disorderly conduct.
"As they were attempting to restrain her, she pulled away and had be to physically restrained," Chief Parsley added, "That is when she kicked one of the officers."
In the meantime, Burns was preparing to leave and was loading his belongings into the truck when police noticed he was carrying a tray containing a green leafy substance. That substance tested positive for marijuana and Burns was arrested.
Carter was transported to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital because of her level of intoxication and later taken to jail.
Department of Child Services was contacted and the child was placed with a grandmother.
Carter and Burns were booked into the Lawrence County jail. As of this morning, both were still at the jail. Carter's bond is set at $7,500 surety or $755 cash. Burns has no bond set. He was on probation at the time of his arrest.
