(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington residents and visitors will have another opportunity to interact with Mayor John Hamilton and City of Bloomington department leaders outside of regular business hours in September.
All are invited to attend events scheduled throughout the month to discuss concerns, current projects and future initiatives and to learn more about the City. These events are part of Mayor Hamilton's ongoing Town Hall Meeting series that began in January.
On Saturday, September 3, Information Technology Services Director Rick Dietz will be at the Bloomington Farmers' Market, 401 N. Morton Street, from 10-11:30 a.m. City-wide fiber optic broadband options, the City's Alpha web site and the future of technology in the City are all topics for discussion.
The second week of September includes two opportunities to get together to discuss City operations. On Tuesday, September 6, the Bloomington Police Department will host "Coffee with a Cop" at 6:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, located at 400 N Walnut Street. This family-friendly event is a chance to meet members of your police department, see the equipment they use and learn more about community policing.
You can meet the new Director of Economic and Sustainable Development Alex Crowley at the Farmers' Market on the 10th of September. Alex will be under the awning in front of City Hall from 11:30-1:00 p.m. to talk about economic and sustainable development in Bloomington and what he brings to his new position with the City.
Planning Director Christy Langley and the staff from the Planning Department will host a "Road Show" meeting at Monroe County Public Library Thursday, September 15, in Room 1B from 6 to 8 p.m.for another chance to discuss the Comprehensive Master Plan. This is one of a series of opportunities for residents to ask questions and provide input as part of the evolution of the CMP, which is the guiding document for City planning and development. To review the plan, it is available on the City's website: bloomington.in.gov. Comments are encouraged and may be submitted to planning@bloomington.in.gov or shared at one of the upcoming meetings.
Beverly Calender-Anderson, Community and Family Resources Department Director, will host a Farmers' Market on Saturday, September 17 from 10-11:30 a.m. Join Beverly just outside City Hall, under the awning or in the shade to the north of the main City Hall entrance, depending on weather conditions. She'll be ready to talk about the City's Safe, Civil and Just Downtown initiative and other important work in which CFRD participates.
The following Saturday, September 24, Mayor John Hamilton will be at the Market from 11a.m. to noon, also in front of City Hall. Mayor Hamilton will be ready to talk about the recently proposed City budget, or any other City matter of interest to you.
The public is encouraged to attend any or each of these after-hours opportunities to interact with City staff. There are no formal agendas, just a chance to interact and share thoughts, concerns and ideas. All are welcome.
