Registration Deadlines Approaching For Ivy Tech's Lifelong Learning Classes

(UNDATED) - Registration deadlines are approaching for upcoming classes offered by Ivy Tech’s Center for Lifelong Learning. Classes are offered at three locations.

Orange County Learning Center
- 479 S. Larry Bird Blvd., French Lick
- The Leader in You! Family. Work. Life: Registration deadline is Thursday. The class will be offered from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 8-29. The cost is $69. Instructor Elizabeth Gutgsell will teach participants how to use their own characteristics and qualities for an enhanced leadership edge. The session will feature the concepts of change, attitude, confidence and self-awareness in the tackling of everyday responsibilities.
- Baklava Baking: Registration deadline is Sept. 27. The class will be offered from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 4. The cost is $39. Instructor Carol Hudelson will help students expand their baking knowledge while making a classic filo-dough dessert. Participants will assemble the pastry and enjoy sampling the finished product while also gaining hands-on experience in making their own baklava to take home and bake. Students also will learn about other filo-dough baked goods. Participants are to bring their own 9 x 13 sturdy pan for easy transport.
StoneGate Arts & Education Center - 405 I St., Bedford
- Up, Up, and Away!: Registration deadline is Sept. 8. The class will meet from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 15. The cost is $29. Instructor is Cyndi Rowland. The course will take students through the process of booking a flight to their final destination. It will emphasize airport terminology, passing through security and customs, getting a passport and tips on packing luggage.
- Beginning Mountain Dulcimer: Registration deadline is Sept. 13. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 20 and Sept. 27. The cost is $39. Randy Tuell will teach simple melodies and chords. No previous musical experience is required.
- Intermediate Mountain Dulcimer: Registration deadline is Sept. 13. The class will meet from 1-3 p.m. on Sept. 20 and Sept. 27. The cost is $39. Randy Tuell will be the instructor. The class is designed to enhance the playing skills of more experienced players who want to play music with others or for personal enrichment. Students will learn advanced playing skills and learn traditional fiddle, gospel and Celtic tunes.
- Introduction to Carving Wooden Faces: Registration deadline is Sept. 13. The class will meet from 1-3 p.m. on Sept. 29. The cost is $29. Dale DeLong will be the instructor, teaching students about the age-old art of woodcarving. Students will learn what is involved and what tools are needed. Students will be instructed on techniques but will not actually be carving in class.
Burton Kimble Farm Education Center - 2058 E. County Road 800 North, Orleans
- Barn Dance: Registration deadline is Friday. The dance will be from 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 9 with Janet Robbins and Patrick Hall as instructors. The cost will be $69. Participants will learn circle dances and reels and will enjoy soups to warm the chilly evening. The class will take place outside the Patchwork Barn at the beautiful Burton Kimble Farms Education Center.
- Fall Baking: Registration deadline is Saturday. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 10. The cost is $59. Laura Anderson will be the instructor, walking participants through a few of her favorite family desserts.
- The Watercolors of Autumn and Lunch on the Farm: Registration deadline is Sept. 10. The session will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 17. The cost is $79. Jeanne Ellen Dutton will be the speaker. After a quick tutorial on how to use watercolors, students will follow along and create two to three small paintings.
- Italian Dinner: Registration deadline is Sept. 17. The session will be Sept. 24 from 5:30-8 p.m. The cost is $69. Meredith Casale-Roll will lead participants in preparing a sit-down family-style Italian meal. Participants will take home recipe cards for future meal preparing.
