(SALEM) - Salem schools were open Wednesday, but with an increased police presence after receiving threats via Snapchat and Instagram on Tuesday.
According to Superintendent Dr. Lynn Reed, the threat claimed someone would come to Salem Middle School Wednesday dressed as a clown and shoot students.
The police are investigating the threats and there was an increased police presence at all three schools and school officials heightened internal security measures.
Students remain in the buildings for recess and officials have have audio and video monitors to control access to the buildings.
Reed says the administration and police are working diligently to get to the bottom of this situation.
