(CELESTINE) - Two teens were injured Sunday night in an ATV crash east of Celestine.
According to Dubois County Police, a 14-year-old male was operating the ATV with a 16-year-old female passenger.
He was traveling southbound on County Road 820 East when he attempted to turn left on County Road 75 North. While turning, he hit a patch of loose gravel in the intersection which caused him to lose control of the ATV. The vehicle continued southbound off the south side of the road, went through a ditch and then struck a metal fence.
Both teens were thrown from the ATV. According to police, neither were wearing a helmet or appropriate personal protective equipment.
The driver suffered abrasions to his leg, but refused medical attention. His passenger complained of pain to her left side and was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital.
Celestine Volunteer Fire Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.
