Last updated on Monday, September 19, 2016

(GLENDALE) - A Washington man is dead after a car versus bicycle accident Sunday afternoon.

According to a Daviess County Sheriff's Department report, officers were called to the scene at 2 p.m.

When they arrived they found the bicyclist, 64-year-old Michael Thurston , of Washington, not breathing.

Thurston was taken to Daviess Community Hospital and was later pronounced dead due to massive internal injuries.

According to police determined Thurston was the last rider in a group of area bicyclists who were traveling from Daviess County Airport to Glendale Fish and Wildlife Area.

Thurston was struck from behind by a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer driven by 92-year-old Robert M. O'Brian, of Washington.

O'Brian told police he didn't see the cyclist.

Police say, Thurston was wearing a safety yellow t-shirt, but no helmet.

The case is still under investigation by the Daviess County Sheriff's Office.

The office says O'Brian was not arrested and the case is being forwarded to the Daviess County Prosecutor's Office for review.
