(BEDFORD) - Severe thunderstorms with strong winds and heavy rains poured down in the Lawrence County area Wednesday afternoon.
Tornado warnings were issued for the area around 5:33 p.m. and continued until 6 p.m., setting off the tornado alert sirens in Bedford after a cloud rotation was detected over the county moving east at 40 miles per hour.
Straight line winds took down trees, power lines and damaged a barn on Shawswick Station Road and other areas throughout the county. Heavy rainfall flooded area roads.
Lawrence County Volunteer Fire Departments and highway crews spent hours clearing debris from roadways and stood by while REMC employees repaired down power lines.
