(BLOOMINGTON) - Continuing to fulfill Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton’s pledge for governmental transparency, the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department announced a recent theft.
Acting Director Paula McDevitt was informed October 19th of a total of $144 missing from the concession stand at the Twin Lakes Sports Park.
Records show money missing in small increments from the concession stand's change fund, and from bank deposits, over the course of seven working days.
The concession stand is typically operated by seasonal part-time staff during adult softball league games on weekday evenings and Sundays.
Appropriate procedures were in place to prevent theft, but an internal investigation revealed that some of those procedures were not followed. Two Parks and Recreation staff members have received formal reprimands, and the matter is under investigation by the Bloomington Police Department. The City will seek to recover the missing funds. No further corrective action is planned at this time.
The concession stand closed for the season October 28 following adult softball league games.
