Dubois REC Awards Nearly $11,000 In Grants

(JASPER) - Trustees for the Dubois REC Operation Round Up fund met to award grants to local groups and organizations in September who received a total of $10,927.72.

This brings the total amount of grants awarded by the program to $251,008.11 since 2011.

Here are the recipients of the most recent grant cycle:

The second grade classes at Dubois Elementary School received a $1,427.72 Operation Round Up grant to purchase the LEGO Education program and supplies.
Fairview General Baptist Church received a $5,500 Operation Round Up grant to help construct barbecue pits and a shelter house which will be used by the church to host fundraisers. The facilities will also be available to other churches, non-profit organizations and schools to host fundraisers.
The Food Pantry program at Lincoln Hills United Methodist Church received a $2,000 Operation Round Up grant to purchase a back-up generator and have it installed. The program has been growing as it partners with other organizations to provide food for disadvantaged families.
The Crawford County United Ministries provides food once a week to families in Crawford County who are struggling. The Food Pantry received a $500 Operation Round Up grant to replace shelving, install new lighting and additional electrical outlets to accommodate more freezers and refrigerators.
Jasper Youth Soccer received a $1,500 Operation Round Up grant to help develop new property for additional soccer facilities in the community.

Dubois REC is accepting applications for Operation Round Up grants from Nov. 1 to 23.

Representatives from local civic groups or organizations who would like to apply for an Operation Round Up grant can download the application forms from www.duboisrec.com. Applications are also available at the Dubois REC office, by calling 812-482-5454 or sending an email to Kyla Jones at kylaj@duboisrec.com.

Those eligible to apply for the funds include groups or organizations located within the Dubois REC service territory, which covers the counties of Dubois, Crawford, Perry, Pike, Orange and Martin.

Grants are available for local volunteer fire departments, youth programs, 4-H, senior citizen programs and other community service projects. The fund will not be used to pay any electric or utility bills or be used in any way to support or oppose any political candidate or campaign.
