(MEDORA) - A Medora man suffered several burns when a fire started in his home this morning.
According to Chief Joe Barnes of the Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department, 54-year-old Jeffrey Wingler was sleeping in a camper that had been converted into a mobile home on Riley Street, when the fire started in the bedroom at about 10 a.m.
Chief Barnes says Wingler was asleep in another room when the fire started.
Wingler suffered serious burns on his legs, chest, arms and face, but Barnes said he was alert and talking at the scene.
Wingler was transported by ambulance to the ballfield in Medora where emergency crews were met by a LifeLine helicopter and was flown to the burn unit at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.
Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Driftwood Township Volunteer Fire Department.
