(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington toddler was found naked standing in the road in the 2900 block of South Leonard Springs Road by a motorist at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
The motorist kept the boy inside a heated car until police and medics arrived to care for the toddler.
While police were attempting to determine where the toddler lived, a woman approached officers and reported she had seen the toddler running around a nearby apartment complex earlier in the morning. After finding the toddler the woman had returned the boy to his parents' apartment, she told police he must have gotten out again.
Police then went to the apartment and spoke to the boy's 19-year-old mother who told police that after the neighbor returned her child, she went back to sleep in a front room. The child's 21-year-old father was found asleep in a back room.
The parents told police their apartment didn't not have childproof locks on the doors and the child was able to open the doors.
Police contacted the Department of Child Services and a caseworker removed the 2-year-old boy and also a 4-month-old infant from the apartment.
Police have forwarded their report to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office for review and possible filing of charges.
