Two Kenya Residents Win Bedford's Limestone Capital Half Marathon

Last updated on Monday, October 3, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Two Kenya residents took the wins for both the male and female runners in the Bedford’s Limestone Capital Half Marathon on Saturday.

This is the third year for the half marathon in Bedford and organizer Chris Galloway was happy with the results.
About 700 people registered for the half marathon, the 5-kilometer race and the mile fun run.

Laban Moiben placed first among the men with a time of one hour, six minutes and 59 seconds, and Aurelia Rutto placed first for the women with a time of one hour, 24 minutes and 30 seconds. The second-place male finisher, Eliud Too, also from Kenya, was only one second behind Moiben.

According to James Walters of Terre Haute, the groups running coach and agent through Athletes International, the athletes participate in races across the country to provide for themselves and their families in Kenya and part of the proceeds they win at races goes toward a nonprofit, Grace of God's Children Project, which funds a home in Kenya for orphans.

Walters says each of the three will run three races while they're in the states and this race was preparation for the IMT Des Moines Marathon in Iowa on October 16.

Last weekend, Rutto was the top female racer in a half marathon in Columbus, and her time was around an hour and 18 minutes.
