Worthington Man Arrested After Altering And Cashing Check

(WORTHINGTON) - A Worthington man was arrested on a warrant for alleged check forgery and theft.

Worthington Marshal Randy Raney was called to the County Market after the owner Tim Wright the owner called police to report one of his cashier had unknowingly cashed a check for $190 that was previously written for the sum of $90.

The check belonged to Layton Wall, who stated he had given a check to 23-year-old Joe James Turpin for $90 for labor he had done on his farm in Freedom.

Johnny Turpin, Joe's father, brought his son to the Worthington Police Department, at which time Joe requested an attorney.

Turpin later returned to the police station and reportedly admitted to altering the check. He was charged with s Level 6 Felony count of forgery and Class A misdemeanor count of theft.
