(BEDFORD) - Twelve seniors from Bedford North Lawrence and Mitchell high schools will compete for college scholarships Saturday during the Distinguished Young Women program at the BNL Performing Arts Center.
The program begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $5.
The participants will be judged in five categories: scholastic achievement (25 percent), judges interview (25 percent), creative and performing arts (20 percent), fitness (15 percent) and self-expression (15 percent).
A total of $5,350 in scholarships will be awarded. The 2017 winner will receive the DYW medallion from 2016 winner Audrey Schlegel and a $2,300 scholarship. Other awards presented include first runner-up ($1,100), second runner-up ($500), Spirit Award ($250) and six category awards of $200 each.
The winner will represent Lawrence County at the Indiana DYW program in February.
Scholarship sponsors are Hoosier Hills Credit Union, Bedford Lions Club, Tri Kappa of Mitchell and Tri Kappa of Bedford.
