(BEDFORD) - A Bloomfield man was injured but fled the scene of an accident Saturday night on North Sandstone Road near Ailias Craig Road.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, officers were alerted to the accident at 8:41 p.m.
Police say 36-year-old Shawn Dotson was traveling south on North Sandstone Road in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado when the truck ran off the road through a yard at 599 North Sandstone Road damaging a stone walkway and landscaping. The truck continued through the yard onto a tree stump where it damaged some statues that were on the stump. The vehicle stopped on top of the stump.
A volunteer firefighter who was in the area stopped to see if Dotson needed medical attention. The firefighter was not named in the report.
The firefighter attempted to render first aid because Dotson had suffered a large gash on his head and was bleeding. Dotson refused medical treatment and was uncooperative with the firefighter and left the scene walking south on North Sandstone Road.
The firefighter told police Dotson smelled of alcohol.
Police checked the area for Dotson and were unable to locate him.
