Interfaith Emergency Winter Shelter Open

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Interfaith Emergency Winter Shelter, a low-barrier winter shelter for homeless people has began their operations at area churches.

The shelter is open seven days a week at different locations depending on the night of the week. The shelter will be open from 9p.m. till 7 a.m. until March 31.

Shelter board president Dan Watts told the Herald Times, the facilities can house up to 40 men and 15 woman depending on the location. If number exceed that an overflow shelter will be opened at the First Presbyterian Church," Shelter board president Dan Watts said.

Watts is looking for volunteers. Those interested in helping can visit www.interfaithwintershelter.org/volunteer.

All volunteers need to participate in volunteer training. Upcoming sessions will be at at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at First Presbyterian Church, on the corner of 7th and Lincoln streets.

Individual training can be arranged. Those interested in volunteering can contact Watts at wattbush@gmail.com.

(Note: All guests will be welcomed at this location at 9 pm. After the light meal and smoking break -- about 10:10 p.m. -- women guests will have transportation to the Wheeler Center for Women & Children, 400 S. Opportunity Lane)
