(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell City Council voted to move around some road signage in order to take semi traffic off the main streets of Mitchell.
The Times Mail reports that Councilman Larry Caudell approached his fellow council members about the need to make the road signage changes near First and Main streets and First and Warren streets on the east side of the city.
Currently there is a yield sign at First and Main streets, as well as a load limit sign. There is a stop sign at First and Warren streets, with no load limit.
Now truck drivers who get lost on Main Street are forced to take the private Lehigh access road because of the load limit.
Caudell suggested moving the yield sign from First and Warren streets and place the stop sign at First and Main streets and move the load limit sign to the western portion of Warren Street.
Those changes would allow semi-trucks to travel north on Main without getting a ticket and then merge onto Warren Street for an exit onto Meridian Road. This forces the heaving semis onto the privately owned Lehigh Road.
The council approved the following changes: a stop sign will now be placed at First and Main streets, a yield sign will be placed at First and Warren streets, and the load limit sign will be placed west of the yield sign on Warren Street.
