(BEDFORD) - Bedford city officials approved spending $25,000 for B&L Sheet Metal of Bedford to examine and fortify the roof of the Milwaukee Depot after water penetrated the building during heavy rains in October.
Rain penetrated in corners around the dormers above the eaves.
Mayor Shawna Girgis says the city will be reimbursed 80 percent of the cost by the Indiana Department of Transportation, which holds the funds for the depot work, which is one of the city's Stellar Communities grant projects.
Once completed, the depot will serve as a tourism and trail information center and include a community room and a gallery room that will tell the story of Indiana limestone and its Lawrence County roots as well as reproductions of the Land of Limestone exhibit.
