(BLOOMINGTON) - Several locations along the B-Line Trail were vandalized late Thursday night with swastikas and “KKK” written in white spray paint.
Hours after the find, it was covered with new paint thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County who hosted a candlelight vigil Friday evening, and residents reclaimed the trail with a walk and a rendition of "We Shall Overcome."
Bloomington police Capt. Steve Kellams says a person riding a bicycle on the trail called police at 11:20 p.m. Thursday saying they saw a bearded man spray-painting swastikas on the trail by Moravec Way. Police say a swastika was written on light pole No. 142. "KKK" and a swastika had been painted on the pavement, and "KKK" was written on an electrical box, all near marker No. 144.
Bloomington police are also investigating graffiti to a stop sign at South Washington Street and East Second Street. This particular stop sign has been vandalized several times in the last several months. Graffiti reading "(expletive) Trump" was discovered Thursday afternoon. The cost for a new sign is an estimated $200.
Capt. Kellams wants anyone who feels threatened or intimidated to call police.
