(CUZCO) - A two-story home near Cuzco was destroyed in a fire Tuesday night.
Dubois Volunteer Firefighters were alerted after police received numerous 911 calls about several explosion in the 6430 block of North Cuzco Road.
Jack Davenport and his wife Verna escaped from the home without injury.
When firefighters arrived the home was engulfed in flames. They called for additional firefighters from from Haysville and Celestine for tanker assistance.
Despite firefighters' efforts, the house was destroyed along with a 5th wheel camper that was parked about 20 feet away from the home. Firefighters were on the scene for more than two hours.
The couple's dogs were killed in the fire.
The couple told firefighter they didn't know how the fire started, but they believed it started near the back porch saying when they woke there were extensive flames at the back door. Jack attempted to extinguish the fire but it was too intense and had to vacate the area.
The family does not have insurance on the home and couldn't confirm if the camper was insured.
The family stayed at a neighbor's house for the night.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
Dubois firefighters responded with three trucks and 25 men and were assisted by Celestine Volunteer Fire Department who had one truck and six men and Haysville Volunteer Fire Department who had one truck and eight men. Memorial Hospital EMS also assisted at the scene.
