(BLOOMINGTON) - The accident that took the life of a Bedford Middle School teacher happened just before 6:30 a.m. Christmas morning.
According to a Monroe County Sheriff's deputy, 42-year-old David Beyers was traveling south on Ind. 37, south of Acuff Road, when for an unknown reason his car veered into the median. The tires caught on loose gravel and caused the car to flip.
Beyers, who also served as the school's athletic director, was pronounced dead at the scene by IU Health Hospital paramedics.
Police say Beyers was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car during the incident. Autopsy results and toxicology tests are pending.
His wife was also in the vehicle and injured. She was wearing a seat belt during the incident. She was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.
