(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after police found him passed out and he woke up and began throwing punches at police.
Bedford Police officers arrested 52-year-old James Woody of Bedford on charges of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest by force and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to a home in the 1100 block of 9th Street at 2:11 a.m. Saturday after a man called reporting that he found the door standing open and the alarm sounding. The man told police he had found his son passed out in the floor and another man unresponsive on a bed and possibly not breathing.
When officers arrived they found Woody passed out on a bed.
"Officers attempted to wake Mr. Woody," Chief Parsley says. "He opened his eyes, mouthed some profanities and told police he was sleeping and closed his eyes again."
Officers again attempted to wake Woody.
"He became angry and started throwing punches and then lunged at a knife near the bed," Chief Parsley says. "He was tased and subdued."
An ambulance was called to the scene.
"Once he was medically cleared he was transported to jail because of his combative attitude," Chief Parsley added.
Police found a water bong and other drug paraphernalia on a table in the room.
