(BLOOMINGTON) - There are still a few spots open in the Cemetery History Series: Chandler Tour.
The tour is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on December 17. The event is fee to attend, but limited to 10 people. The event is recommended for those ages 16 and up.
Those attending will meet at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site and will carpool to the Chandler Cemetery, also know as Fry or Shields Cemetery.
Residents of the Salt Creek valley shaped the history of the area that would become Monroe Lake and the Hoosier National Forest. Explore the stories of some of these people and their settlements while visiting old cemeteries that still dot the land.
Once at the cemetery, participants will tour the gravesites and discuss the now-vanished town of Gent, which was once located nearby.
The event will take about 75 minutes to complete.
To register to attend call the Paynetown Activity Center at (812) 837-9967 or email Jill Vance at jvance@dnr.IN.gov
