(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington in collaboration with Vectren Corporation will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, December 8 at 3 p.m. for a recently completed mural by local artist Drew Etienne.
The event will be located in front of the Vectren fence parallel to the B-Line Trail beginning on 4th Street. This is part of an overall beautification project Vectren began earlier this year at its 4th and Madison Streets location.
"I'm happy to see another public-private partnership forged over the arts here in Bloomington. This is an attractive and energetic new addition to our public art collection and one that couldn't have happened without generous support from Vectren. These partnerships are great for Bloomington and I hope to see many more like it," commented Mayor John Hamilton.
"I think we're going to be seeing more art in unexpected places here in Bloomington. This project reflects the power the arts contribute to adding beauty to an unconventional surface or overlooked location, and we have Vectren to thank for trusting us on that! The role of our public art reflects our sense of place and brings color and creativity to our everyday lives," stated Starowitz.
This is part of a larger effort put forth by the City of Bloomington Arts Commission (BAC) and its Public Art Master Plan for the City of Bloomington. The Plan has identified shared civic values for the arts, objectives and aspirations for public art and priorities for public art investment, which are designed to positively impact the creation of bold, innovative and impactful works of public art in performance, visual, literary, design and architecture.
