(QUINCY) - A Danville man was killed in after his vehicle left the road way and struck a guardrail on U.S. 231 Thursday night.
According to an Indiana State Police report, the accident happened just before 5:30 p.m. in the 9700 block of U.S. 231.
Police say 58-year-old Franklin C. Stokes was traveling north on U.S. 231 when for an unknown reason his 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck with an empty attached horse trailer left the roadway and struck a guardrail and then inverted, all before detaching from the trailer and coming to a stop.
Stokes, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the passenger side window.
He was unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived and died at the scene.
Trooper Ian Matthews investigated the crash and was assisted by the Owen County Sheriff's Department, the Gosport Police Department, Owen County EMS, Owen County Fire Department, Cloverdale Township Fire Department and the Owen County Coroner's Office.
