(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after police found him sleeping in the middle of 16th Street Friday morning.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called at 1:20 a.m. to 16th Street, between J and K streets, after a motorist reported there was a man sleeping in the street. That motorist stopped his SUV and put on his flashers so the man would not be hit by another vehicle.
"The man was on his back and sound asleep," Chief Parsley says." Officers attempted to wake him but all the man would say was that his name was 'Bob'."
Police were later able to verify his identity through an identification card.
Police say 47-year-old Lance Mullins of Bedford was intoxicated. He also had suffered a contusion to his head.
"He may have fallen and then went to sleep because of the head injury," Chief Parsley added.
An ambulance transported Mullins to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment. Once there Mullins became uncooperative with hospital staff. After being medically cleared he was taken to the Lawrence County Jail on a charge of public intoxication.
