(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police arrested two men Saturday after one of them beat another man with a walking cane.
Police arrested 24-year-old Ethan Dickey and 55-year-old Ricky Hughes both on charges of battery and strangulation.
Police were called to the 1600 block of West Third Street around 4:40 p.m. after a report of a fight.
When police arrived they found a man walking on the sidewalk with blood on his face and hands and waving down the officers.
That is when police noticed two men following the injured man.
When police asked the injured man who hurt him, he pointed at the men following him.
The injured man told police he had confronted Dickey and Hughes about taking advantage of another person and that is when the men pinned him against the side of a tool shed and choked him. The victim was able to punch Hughes breaking his glasses and fled.
Hughes, who was using a silver walking cane, could not catch him. But he gave the cane to Dickey, who ran after the victim and hit him in the head and face several times with the cane. Police say the cane broke during the beating.
Police did find blood on Hughes, but he refused to cooperate with police and tell them how it got on him. They also found the pair of broken glasses in Hughes' pocket.
Dickey told police he was not involved in the incident and was just walking on the sidewalk when police stopped him. He denied hitting the victim with the cane.
The victim was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.
