(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police recovered several counterfeit $100 bills on Bloomington’s west side this past Monday night.
The first report of possible counterfeit money was reported at 9:20 p.m. At Bucceto's Smiling Teeth, at 350 South Liberty Drive.
Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams says a black man, around 5 foot 9 inches tall in his mid 20's with a teardrop face tattoo, purchased around $5 worth of food and paid with a counterfeit $100. The restaurant made change for that bill. The man then told the employee that they had just got paid and wanted to know if they could make change for three more $100. The employee did not realize the other three bills were counterfeit.
About 35 minutes later police received a call from Mother Bear's Pizza at 2980 West Whitehall Crossing Boulevard with a reported that they had a similar situation. Police recovered four counterfeit $100 bills which had been changed out for real cash.
Capt. Kellams say police are reviewing security video and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about the man is asked to call the Bloomington Police Department at (812) 339-4477.
