(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington residents have until February 27 to provide public input on preliminary plans for the Sample Road project.
The Herald Times (heraldtimesonline.com) reports that representatives with Butler, Fairman and Seufert Civil Engineers are seeking input on the more than $12 million project slated to start in 2019-20. That price tag includes preliminary engineering, right-of-way acquisition and construction costs. Monroe County is pursuing federal funding to finance up to 80 percent of the construction costs.
The planned project is to be completed in two phases:
Phase one will extend from Ind. 37, which will become Interstate 69, east along Sample Road to North Old Ind. 37.
Phase Two will start at the intersection of Bottom and Simpson Chapel roads and follow existing Simpson Chapel and Sample roads to connect to the nearby I-69 interchange.
The proposed project will widen existing travel lanes to 12 feet along Simpson Chapel and Sample roads, widening shoulders to 8 feet, reconfiguring intersections for better traffic flow, and reconstructing drainage structures and some driveways in the area.
During construction the roads will be closed to through traffic. But residents in the area will have access to their homes.
No business or residence will have to be relocated. Residents who may lose portions of their property due to right-of-way acquisition will be compensated accordingly.
During Phase One motorists will be directed to a new access road along I-69 to Wylie Road and then back to North Old Ind. 37.
During Phase Two motorists will take North Bottom Road to West Dittemore Road before crossing the Chambers Pike bridge to an access road before returning to the interstate.
