(SALEM) - A horse was killed in an accident Tuesday night on State Road 56 East after an Amish buggy and motor vehicle collided at the intersection of State Road 56 and the bypass.
The accident happened just after 8 p.m.
According to a Salem Police report, the Amish buggy was traveling east on State Road 56 approaching the bypass at the same time a 4-door Chevrolet Colorado was approaching the intersection in the other direction.
The truck was driven by a couple from Clarksville who were visiting Salem to watch a family member participate in a sporting event at Salem Middle School.
"As the buggy approached the intersection, the driver thought the truck was yielding. The driver of the buggy got the horse started, and about the same time the truck pulled out onto 56 West," says Salem Police Officer Russell Wilcoxson.
As a result, the buggy and horse t-boned the truck, killing the horse.
Both adult occupants of the buggy, along with four children and the occupants of the Chevrolet, were not injured.
Salem Police, Salem Fire Department and the Washington County Sheriff's Department assisted with the accident.
