(HUNTINGBURG) - Police arrested a 26-year-old Huntingburg woman on Thursday on a charge of neglect of a dependent causing death.
The arrest of 26-year-old Rachelle Childree stems from the death of a 2.5 month-old girl in her care last November.
Police were called to 217 N. Arjem after a report of an unresponsive child on November 29, 2016, at 2:56 p.m.
When Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and Huntingburg First Responders arrived at the apartment they found a two-and-a-half-month-old female infant dead.
According to court documents, the Dubois County Coroner's office was contacted along with Huntingburg Police Detective/Sergeant Christian L. Gogel.
Police and the Dubois County Department of Child Services opened an investigation into the cause of death of the infant who was in the care of Childree. The infant was not related to the Childree.
Police say that Childree was watching the infant in her home along with two of her own children.
After Detective Gogel completed his investigation, he turned his findings over to the Dubois County Prosecuting Attorney's office who issued a warrant Thursday for Childree's arrest.
Childree was arrested at her home Thursday at 4:10 p.m. She was booked into the Dubois County Security Center, She is being held on a $20,000 bond.
