(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was arrested after a domestic fight involving his mother and cousin.
Lawrence County Police arrested 22-year-old Dallas Knight on charges of battery and strangulation.
At 11:43 p.m. Friday, police dispatch received a 911 call from a home in the 2200 block of Rariden Hill Road. The dispatcher said that during the call there were people yelling in the background.
When police arrived they could hear screaming coming from inside the home.
When they went to the door a 37-year-old woman answered. It was Knights' cousin. According to Sheriff Mike Branham the woman had blood on her face and mouth in addition to a red mark on her neck.
"She was holding an ice pack to the right side of her jaw," Sheriff Branham added.
When officers entered the home they found Knight intoxicated with a bloody nose and screaming coming from upstairs. They found Knights' 58-year-old mother in the hallway floor bleeding from her mouth.
She told police her son had shoved her down and hit her in the head with a closed fist.
The cousin told police that Knight had been drinking all day and got made when someone had asked him for a cigarette.
Sheriff Branham says neither of the women wanted to file charges. But due to the severity of the injuries, officers made arrested Knight.
Knight's mother was taken to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital by AMR ambulance. The cousin refused medical treatment.
Knight was taken to the hospital for evaluation, then was taken to the Lawrence County jail. He is being held on a $7,500 surety or $755 cash bond.
