(BEDFORD) - A Mitchell woman was arrested after police found her slumped over a steering wheel and she became combative with police.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, an employee at the probation officer requested a welfare check on a woman who was in a vehicle and appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel in a parking lot on I Street between 16th and 17th streets.
When officers arrived they found 46-year-old Rebecca Osborne slumped on the steering wheel of the vehicle.
"Officers woke her and she seemed confused and unaware of her surroundings," says Chief Parsley.
An ambulance was called to the scene to check on Osbone's well being.
"Officers thought she might be having a diabetic issue," Chief Parsley added. "Once she was medically cleared officers asked to her step out of the vehicle to submit to a breath test after officers determined she was under the influence of an intoxicating substance."
That is when she became angry and began yelling at the officers.
"She refused to exit the vehicle," Chief Parsley said. "When officers went to assist her out of the vehicle she began fighting with them. She was holding onto the steering wheel and once out of the vehicle refused to stand up."
She continued to be belligerent and struggle with police officers.
"She had to be physically carried to the police car," Chief Parsley added. "And then carried into the jail."
Osborne was arrested on charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest.
