(BORDEN) - Washington County residents will take the plunge this weekend at Deam’s Lake.
The annual Polar Plunge is the biggest fundraiser for Washington County Special Olympics and there's still time for supporters to donate.
Last year, Washington County was able to raise $10,000 in its first official year of having a Special Olympics team. County coordinator Michelle Dewitt is hoping to top that number in 2017.
To donate, visit www.soindiana.org and click on the special events tab. You can choose the team to which you want to donate.
After the plunge, there is a Splash Bash held at Borden Schools. Participants get a free ticket to the event where there is silent and live auctions, door prizes and free food. Awards are given for those who raise the most money.
This is the second year for Special Olympics in Washington County. There are currently 32 local Special Olympic athletes.
For more information, call Michelle at (812) 989-4069 or email michelle.dewitt@hotmail.com.
Donations can be made online or in person. All checks should be made out to Special Olympics.
