(BLOOMINGTON) - A package found Monday morning near the Bloomington Police Department was found to be harmless.
The package was reported at 9:30 a.m. after a concerned citizen reported spotting the suspicious package outside of Turkuaz Cafe, near Bloomington Police Department.
The investigation shut down the intersection of Washington and Third streets, in addition to the intersection of Lincoln and Fourth streets, where ISP responders parked their vehicles. Occupants of the apartment above Turkuaz Cafe were told to leave their homes. Turkuaz Cafe is closed on Mondays.
An Indiana State Police robot helped determine the contents of the package. After state police explosive ordnance team declared the object to present no threat, and the area was reopened to traffic around 1:30 p.m.
According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, the package belonged to someone who had dropped it. The package was wrapped in electrical cord in a plastic bag. The package was about 12 inches long, 12 inches wide and 2 inches deep. It was enclosed in an unsealed shipping box with an old UPS label still attached.
