(AVOCA) - A man and woman were arrested Monday after another motorist noticed them fighting in a vehicle stopped on State Road 37 at the Avoca stoplight.
The motorist called Lawrence County police just after 9 p.m. to report the incident.
According to a Lawrence County Superior Court I probable cause affidavit, the motorist was able to give a description of the vehicle to police.
An officer went to the area and located the vehicle and talked to the passenger, 31-year-old Tonya Jones.
While speaking to her, police noticed she had a bloody lip and blood on her sweatshirt and jeans.
The driver of the vehicle was 38-year-old Randy Shields of Bloomington.
"Shields admitted that Johnson had hit him in the chin," the affidavit reads. "Shields stated he then turned and hit Jones."
Both Shields and Jones were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct. Shields was also cited for having a false and or fictitious registration.
Shields posted a $505 cash bond and Jones posted a $305 cash bond on Tuesday and both were released from jail.
