Becky's Place Mardi Gras Shelterbration Raises $25,000

(BEDFORD) - More than 370 people attended Becky’s Place Mardi Gras Shelterbration, raising $25,000 for the women’s shelter.
The event was held at the Shamrock Center at St. Vincent de Paul Church on February 25.
According to officials say that amount was down from 2016, when the shelter raised $47,000.
In 2016 the shelter served:
100 residents. Of those 63 were adults and 37 children. The average age of the women range from 35 to 44 years old. The average age of children range from 5 to 21-years-old. Two women over the age of 62 were given shelter. Of those 37 were Lawrence County residents.
Three veterans were housed.
Those entering with no income were 63.
Those with existing income by employment or government assistance were 58
The average stay at the shelter is 48 days.
Of those entering the shelter, 51 percent moved into permanent housing
It take around $18,000 a month in operation costs - the shelter operates fully from donations
